Resident Evil: Retribution is a 2012 sci-fi thriller film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It's the fifth installment within the Resident Evil film series, based on the Capcom survival horror video game series Resident Evil, and also the third to become directed by Anderson. It is a direct follow-on in the previous film Resident Evil: Afterlife. The film has numerous returning actors and characters, along with new characters from the gaming not featured in the earlier films. Filming took place from October to December 2011 for a scheduled release date of September 14, 2012. The film was released in 3D and IMAX 3D, in addition to 2D.
The film sees Alice captured through the Umbrella Corporation, forcing her to create her escape from an underwater base within the Arctic Circle, employed for testing the T-virus. Many characters from previous films make a return, including Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), a Raccoon City survivor controlled by Umbrella; Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr), a former Umbrella soldier, now cloned for use within the experiments; Luther West (Boris Kodjoe), a Los Angeles survivor; Rain Ocampo (Michelle Rodriguez) and James "One" Shade (Colin Salmon), soldiers who have been killed throughout the events from the first film; and Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts), former head of Umbrella and Alice's former nemesis. Three new characters in the games appear the very first time within the franchise: Adam Wong (Li Binging), a spy and associate of Wesker; Leon S. Kennedy (Johann Rub), a survivor and freelance fighter employed by Wesker to retrieve Alive; and Barry Burton (Kevin Durand) one of Leon's fellow soldiers. A brand new film character is also introduced in the form of Becky (Aryana Engineer), a clone with whom Alice develops an attachment.
Synopsis: Awakening in a top-secret Umbrella facility as the T-virus threatens to eliminate the final remnants of humanity, Alice (Milla Jovovich) ventures on the mission to identify the truth about her mysterious past and look for the source of the apocalyptic plague. The deeper Alice ventures into the complex, the greater she starts to find out about her origins. Later, after escaping to the outside world, she embarks on an epic adventure that takes her to the farthest corners of the globe as she fights the forces of darkness alongside allies both old and new.
